“Liquescence – from solid to liquid”

I was always fascinated by reflections in water – so much, a series of images resulted in an exhibition under the title “View From The Edge“. I see it as the visual transformation of solid matter into liquid matter. Maybe a less obvious thing for anyone living in Nevada, but in these parts, looking at a map, there is more blue than green…the liquid stuff, surrounding, always present. Objects close to the water’s edge, varying with angle, light colour, light direction, wave action…turn into amazing shapes, lines, textures – loosing their former identity… emphasizing the building blocks of design… an abstraction. But, as opposed to a painter, who can start from pure imagination, these images here are all actually ‘real’ – they actually existed, solid or liquid. It is a unique feature of photography being real and abstract at the same time. There are reeds, branches, the sky and clouds, man-made structures… Besides the unimaginable variety of subject matter, it’s also another good example of the power and strong impact of pure design, without any need for sidekicks of sociopolitical messages. Where shape, line and colour is the message – a pure visual experience, forcing the image to stand on its own. Where, instead of asking ‘what is it?‘, we let our eyes roam freely over shapes, textures and their arrangement, asking ourselves what we like about the image, responding emotional instead of logical. “In order to see freely we must forget the names of what we are looking at” – Claude Monet

All very beautiful and each unique as only reflections can be.

I’m inspired to look beyond ultra-still waters for more interesting shapes and patterns…
